Written By Ken Davenport

When Broadway shut down, I called every guru I knew for advice.  And every guru I didn’t know.

“What should I do,” I exclaimed!

I got lots of advice . . . from pursuing streaming theater to making movies (working on that).

But the best advice I got was to work on my plumbing.

That’s right.  Plumbing.  In other words, work on the stuff that people don’t see.  Work on the stuff that you forget to work on . . . until it’s too late.

(Another version of “work on your plumbing” is “clean out the garage,” btw.)

In the theater, where things happen at the pace of Nascar, it’s hard to find time to work on the foundation of your business.  So when you’ve got that time (like a pandemic), you gotta take advantage of it.

So, over the last year, I worked on my plumbing.

I took over the bookkeeping of my company myself, to understand what we were spending money on (so I could find ways to save – because boy did we need it).  I shut down three companies that weren’t working the way I wanted them to and were just taking up time.

And . . . I rebuilt my website.

That was the big one.

See, before I had myself a company website . . . www.DavenportTheatrical.com.

Honestly, not many people went to that one.

And then I had my blog . . . . www.TheProducersPerspective.com.  Honestly, MORE people went to that one.  But we let the pipes get rusty (the tech and the design were a bit dated.)  The site was like a house that you keep on putting additions on, instead of rebuilding the whole dang thing.

So I tore ’em all down.

And since I’m more of a person than a “Davenport Theatrical” and since I’m doing more than just producing, I merged all my stuff into one domain. (In other words, we reduced our number of pipes!)

So .  . . introducing our new website, KenDavenport.com.

Check it out.  Let me know what you think.

Oh – and technically the site is in beta.  And like everything I do, I depend on the audience for feedback.  So if you see something that you like, don’t like, has a typo, or needs some attention, send me a note.  You’ll see how in the “contact us” section of the site.

If you’re a blog subscriber, you’ll still get blogs, but with a different look and from a different domain.

If you’re not a blog subscriber, what the @#$% is wrong with you!  😉  Seriously, click here.  Sign up.

Either way, please check out my new plumbing. Then ask yourself, “what of my own plumbing can I improve?”
