Jenne Wason is a musical theatre bookwriter and lyricist who is fortunate enough to work with incredibly talented composers. Her work spans topics that interest and inspire her – everything from an uplifting resistance movement in Nazi Germany to a hilarious group of wine-drinking women.
Not too long ago, Jenne completed the Production Mastery Course with The TheaterMakers Studio and we sat down to ask about her journey.
What is one thing you wanted to accomplish during your time with the Studio?
I wanted to have a robust resource to tap into for various aspects of my theatre career. I always love checking in on tips for writing, but also needed more support on submissions and producing.
What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned during this process?
Haha – I learned that Ken is a very busy man.
Also, I found the insider info on how Broadway theatres and Investors think etc., really interesting
What’s one piece of advice you have for people considering TheaterMakers Studio?
Definitely give it a try – and when you do make sure to REALLY give it a try! Dedicate a certain amount of time each day to take every course you can and check out all the resources. There’s a TON of helpful info here.
What part of the TheaterMakers Studio has been the most valuable to you?
Ken’s of-the-moment advice in the coaching calls has been a huge help during these pandemic times. I’ve really enjoyed some of the more intense short challenges (like the “Take Charge” one in January) to keep me motivated and also love the available resources such as sample budgets, execution plans, etc.
What’s next for your project? What are you most excited to do now that you’ve graduated from TheaterMakers Studio Stage III?
I’m part of the producing team looking to take Winesday to new locations, hopefully for a long-term run. We have a new potential location in the works, once we can safely reopen. Plans are well on their way!
