TheaterMaker Spotlight: Vince Ventura and 12 PEERS THEATER

The TheaterMakers Studio is an online training program and community that will take your theater career to the next stage with the guidance and support of industry experts.

Get certified in theater mastery with our three certification courses which lay the foundations for writing, developing, and producing great theater.

Vince Ventura is the Executive Artistic Director of 12 Peers Theater, a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to create exciting, engaging, and experimental theatrical productions with a focus on myth and cultural identity for new and established theatre lovers in the Greater Pittsburgh Area, through various in person and online programs, season after season.

A few weeks ago, Vince completed the Production Mastery Course with The TheaterMakers Studio and we sat down to ask Vince a few questions about his process.

What is one thing you wanted to accomplish during your time with the Studio?

After 10 years of managing a nonprofit theater, I wanted to examine a for-profit theatre model. I was taking The TheaterMakers Studio course alongside my Executive MBA to fill in a few gaps in my knowledge as well as my coursework.

What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned during this process?

I was extremely surprised to learn about four walls rentals. Most of the rentals I’ve engaged in come with staff, concessions, equipment, and rehearsal space. We’ve been quite lucky in that regard, and I’m sure our nonprofit status helps.

What’s one piece of advice you have for people considering TheaterMakers Studio?

Ken is a wealth of knowledge and resources. The TheaterMakers Studio staff makes the process seamless. This course doesn’t remove the hard work of producing theatre, nor does it sugar coat the difficulty. What it does do is help prevent you from re-inventing the wheel. It helps you walk into a room and look like you belong there, so to speak. The TheaterMakers Studio gives you a solid foundation from which you can begin professionally producing your (or someone else’s) plays and musicals.

What part of the TheaterMakers Studio has been the most valuable to you?

Special offers, one on ones with Ken, the TheaterMakers Summit, the Digital Theater Intensive. Everything was exceptional! I will say that the video library is where the value in this course really lives.

What’s next for your project? What are you most excited to do now that you’ve graduated from TheaterMakers Studio Stage III?

I’m back to the fundraising game, so our theatre can return in the summer of 2022. We typically perform in the summers, with smaller events in the spring and fall. Once our current web series wraps up (www.mythburgh.com) we will take a small hiatus until we can invite our audiences into our space again.

Keep up with Vince and 12 Peers Theater on Instagram and Facebook.
